Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Modern eczema care goes far beyond steroid creams — biologics and JAK inhibitors mean most patients can finally have calm skin year-round.

Eczema treatment

Why eczema is so different now

Until recently, "eczema" meant moisturize and use steroid cream. Today, we have biologics and small-molecule oral medications that target the immune signals causing the rash directly. Patients who lived with constant itch for years often clear in weeks.

Our approach

  1. Diagnose accurately — not all itchy rashes are eczema; we rule out allergic contact dermatitis, fungal, and other mimickers.
  2. Repair the barrier — daily moisturizing strategy specific to Miami's humidity.
  3. Use the right strength of topical — face/folds vs. body, and rotate calcineurin inhibitors when needed.
  4. Escalate when needed — dupilumab, tralokinumab, lebrikizumab, JAK inhibitors (upadacitinib, abrocitinib).
  5. Address triggers — sweat, soap, fragrance, stress patterns.

Frequently asked questions

Is biologic therapy safe long-term?
The biologics we use for eczema (dupilumab, tralokinumab) have years of post-approval safety data. They don't broadly suppress the immune system the way older drugs did.
